Clogging Dance Lessons Seattle, Washington
WHO ARE WE?
Emerald City Cloggers first started clog dancing together on January
15th, 2002 in Seattle, Washington and we have clogged
to our heart's content ever since. We teach clogging dance lessons
on a weekly basis in
Seattle, Washington. In addition, some of us have performed at venues such as Seattle Folk Life, Seattle
Gay Pride, Neighbours, The Timberline, The Polyclinic Variety
Show, and Kick Off 2007 Clogging Workshop Exhibitions just to name a
few.
We clog dance "just for fun"
with an
occasional performance here and there for those of us Seattle cloggers wishing to "kick up
our heels" and "double-toe our steps" to a viewing
audience. Much of our fun comes from teaching Seattle clogging dance lessons to
people wanting to learn clogging steps and cued routines. We teach
various levels from the beginning basic
double toe step on up to the more complicated step combinations associated
with the mid-to-high intermediate levels of clogging.
HOW WE GOT STARTED?
We were founded by a couple of cloggers who wanted to clog
dance in Seattle. They found very few Seattle clogging groups and little if any
clogging dance classes or instruction in the area. Due to this fact they
decided to form their own group. This group
started with three main goals which are still present today. 1) Have fun
with other cloggers learning new routines and sharing
our clogging dance knowledge with others in the Puget Sound Area. 2) Teach this fun
form of American folk dance by giving Seattle clogging dance lessons. 3) Perform clog dancing routines to the most modern of hip-hop
and techno songs, in addition to the more traditional country
and Appalachian hoe-down music, to showcase the wide array of music clogging is danced
to.
Our dance group was originally formed under the
name Timberline Bucks Clogging Team in Seattle, Washington. The Timberline
hosted our dance team and the Bucks portion of our name came
from "Clyde" the buck elk -- a well known adornment over the
Timberline's fireplace. Not only was "Bucks" a good name for
this reason but "buck dancing" is a particular form of clog
dancing; hence our initial name was born. In mid-2003, our clogging
group changed our name to Emerald City Cloggers to more reflect Seattle,
Washington -- The Emerald City.
WHERE DO WE CLOG DANCE?
We clog
dance on Tuesday evenings at the Center House, located in the Seattle
Center next to the Space Needle. Although we dance in the Center House
each week, the actual room we dance in fluctuates some due to
availability. Please contact us if you'd like our current clogging
schedule.
WANT TO CLOG WITH US?
We
welcome anyone who is interested in clogging. Those
with intermediate and above clogging skills are welcome to join in on
our intermediate through low advanced level sessions at any time. We
encourage the non-experienced to drop by as well so you can see how much
fun clogging really is. We can almost guarantee that once you see a
clogging routine or two, you'll want to kick up your heels and double
toe your steps as well! Check out our lessons page for more details
